Sail Darwin's Voyage to the Galápagos
By sailing the voyage themselves. Your kid boards the Beagle as the ship's naturalist, follows Darwin's real route, and keeps their own illustrated field journal — observing the same animals and places that led to the theory of evolution. They finish with a published expedition journal, chapter by chapter, in their own words and drawings.
What your kid actually makes
A real expedition journal. Each chapter is one leg of Darwin's voyage aboard the Beagle — your kid explores it as the ship's naturalist, collects five field notes about what they observe, and publishes the chapter with their notes and drawings. The finished chapters add up to a journal with their name on it, and every published chapter lands in their portfolio.
How a sitting goes
One chapter is one sitting. Your kid picks up the voyage where they left it, explores the place Darwin actually visited, decides what's worth observing, and writes it down the way a naturalist would. When the five notes are in, the chapter publishes — a finished, readable thing they can show the same day.
What AI does — and what your kid does
Your kid does the noticing: where to look, what to observe, which question to ask, what goes in the journal. The AI plays the world — it brings the coastlines, storms and animals to life, and answers questions the way a knowledgeable shipmate would. It never writes the journal for them.
What they're really learning
Observation — the habit every science course is trying to teach. Evolution the way Darwin met it: not as vocabulary, but as puzzles in the field ("why do the finches on this island look different?"). Geography along a real route. And the kind of writing that comes from having something real to say.
Good to know
- Chapters never expire — the voyage can pause for a week and pick up exactly where it left off.
- Younger kids do well with a parent reading alongside; older kids sail solo.
- A finished chapter reads aloud in a few minutes — dinner-table material, one leg at a time.
- Ages
- 6–13
- How long it takes
- A chapter at a time
- They walk away with
- an explorer's journal with all 30 animals Darwin discovered
