Publish “All My Heroes” — or YOUR HEROES Comics

A magazine about it, with their name on the cover. Your kid takes the thing they already know most about — dinosaurs, sharks, one football club, whatever it is — decides what goes in the issue, and then directs the pages: the AI draws and lays them out, and your kid rewrites, redraws and reorders until it reads right. They finish with a published issue they can flip through, and the next issue is the same obsession from a new angle.

What your kid actually makes

A published issue about the subject they already know most about, with a cover, credits, an issue number and their pen name on it, read in a flipbook. The subject is theirs to pick. Issues collect in their portfolio as a back catalog you can read through together, and by month three a kid can have around a dozen of them.

How a sitting goes

The first issue is built to finish in one sitting. Your kid picks the subject and the look — comic, manga, indie zine or classic newspaper strip, chosen once and held across the series. A partner helps them shape the issue into a beginning, a middle and a payoff, so it lands as something to read rather than a pile of facts. The issue then comes back as rough thumbnail pages, which they re-roll until the flow works, and only then does the real art render. That is when your kid edits: redraw a panel, rewrite a line, reorder the pages. Then it publishes. Later issues run weekly.

What AI does — and what your kid does

Your kid is editor-in-chief. The subject, what goes in the issue, what stays and what gets redone are all their calls. The AI draws and lays out and redraws whenever asked; it never picks the subject and it never overrules your kid. When it hands a page back, the question is always what they want changed.

What they're really learning

The difference between knowing a lot about something and being able to explain it. A kid who can recite two hundred dinosaur facts has to choose which six matter, what order they go in, and how to end — which is editing, and it is the part school rarely asks for. They also get to be the expert in the room, which is a rarer feeling than it should be.

Good to know

  • No drawing skill needed. Your kid describes what they want and edits what comes back.
  • This one works best when your kid already has an obsession they will not stop talking about — that is the fuel.
  • You approve your kid's pen name before the first issue publishes.
