Make a Manga: My Pet Is Secretly a Superhero
By making the pet the main character of their own manga series. Your kid describes their dog or cat in words until the character sheet looks right, decides what happens in this issue, picks a manga style, and then edits the pages the AI draws — redrawing panels and rewriting lines until it reads the way they wanted. They finish with a published issue that has a cover, an issue number and their pen name on it, and the same pet-hero carries into the next one.
What your kid actually makes
A manga issue starring their own pet. Your kid describes the animal — a doodle works as a starting point — and refines the character sheet that comes back ("more grumpy", "less like this") until it is theirs. That character is then frozen, so the same pet-hero holds together across every issue, and the issues stack into a real series under their pen name in their portfolio.
How a sitting goes
The first issue is built to finish in one sitting, often under an hour. Your kid locks the character, decides what this issue is about in three beats — setup, trouble, payoff — and picks manga as the style, which then holds across the series. The whole issue comes back first as rough thumbnail pages they can read at a glance, before any real art exists; they re-roll the pages that are not working. Then the pages render properly and your kid is the editor: redraw a panel, rewrite a line, swap a scene for a funnier one, reorder until it lands. Later issues run on a weekly rhythm.
What AI does — and what your kid does
Your kid is editor-in-chief. They invent the character, decide what happens, choose the style, and say what gets changed. The AI draws — the character sheet, the rough pages, the finished panels — and redraws on request. It never overrules your kid, and when it hands art back the framing is always "here is what the Crew drew, what do you want changed?"
What they're really learning
Authorship rather than drawing technique: plot, pacing, character and payoff. Setup–trouble–payoff is the shape under every story they will ever write, and here they feel it fail — a middle with no trouble in it falls flat in the thumbnails, and they can see that and fix it before any art is drawn.
