How to draw video game characters with your kid

Watch this 52-second film with your kid before they open the Art department. Tek shows how a drawing on paper becomes a character that moves in a game.

What your kid learns

  • A game needs a cast: a hero, a key, and a villain.
  • A name and one fact turn a drawing into a character.
  • Big, simple shapes, thick lines, and bright colors read well on a small screen.

The steps

  1. 1

Your kid picks a character and draws it on paper, then snaps a photo. They can also draw along with a guide, or pick a drawing they made before.

  2. 2

They give it a name and one thing about it. In the film, EyeO is a one-eyed mummy who wants to play.

  3. 3

Tek brings the drawing to life and cuts it out, so it can move in the game.
