Find the event bug

The steps are perfect. Nothing happens. The bug is somewhere else.

Meet the block

Some bugs are not in the steps at all. Every block under the hat can be right, in the right order, with the right number — and still nothing moves. That is a bug in the hat. The blocks under it only run when the moment the hat waits for actually arrives.

the hat — it sits on top and waits
the picture — what it waits for

Wrong arrow, wrong number, wrong hat. The third one is the quiet one — it stops the whole script.

See it work

First, a tap script with no bugs in it at all. The hat waits, the tap arrives, the bee flies.

ExampleA tap script that works

That is what a working hat looks like — it waits, the moment arrives, the blocks under it run. Now meet a script that waits for a moment that never comes.

Your turn

Now you're the programmer.

Oh no — the bee's program never runs. Can you fix it?

Get the 🐝 to the 🌼. One block is wrong, and it isn't a step.

Your program

Read the bee's program, then imagine tapping the bee. What happens?

Can you break it on purpose?

Swap the 👆 hat back for the 💥 one and press play. The steps under it are still perfect, and the bee still never moves — there is nothing in this garden to bump into. A script listening for the wrong moment is the quietest bug there is.

For grown-ups

When nothing runs at all, the bug is in the trigger, not the steps — the first check every programmer learns to make.

Where this goes

Make a game other kids can play

The blocks on this page are a first taste. In a Kubrio project your kid builds a real game — powers, triggers, levels and all — and other kids get to play it.

Ingenious projects that inspire kids to make things — until they find the thing only they could make.
Ages 6–13.
