How to playtest a game your kid made

Watch this 39-second film with your kid before they open the Playtest department. Tek shows how game studios test a game before it comes out.

What your kid learns

  • Game studios play a game again and again before it comes out. That's playtesting.
  • Watching someone else play shows where a level is unfair.
  • Your kid beats every level before the game can launch, so they know it's fair.

The steps

  1. 1

Your kid plays every level: find the door, grab the key, and get past EyeO.

  2. 2

If a level is too hard or too easy, they tell the game, and it changes.

  3. 3

They watch someone else play, maybe you, and fix the spot where that player gets stuck.

Transcript

  1. Before a game comes out, real studios play it again, and again. That's called playtesting.

  2. Step one. Play every level. Find the door, grab the key, and get past EyeO.

  3. Step two. Too hard? Too easy? Tell the game, and it changes.

  4. Step three. Watch someone else play. Where do they get stuck? That's what you fix.

  5. Beat every level yourself before you launch. Then you know it's fair.
