Lesson 1 transcript: One big message
Every good comic says one big thing. Comic writers pick it before they draw anything.
Step one. Read the five messages. Be brave. Be kind. Never give up. Friends help. Make them laugh.
Step two. Pick the one you care about most. Our comic is about Sam, who is scared of the dark. So we pick Be brave.
Step three. Say it in your own words. Even in the dark, you can find out what's really there.
Now every page has a job. It helps say that one thing.
One message. That's where a comic starts. Now pick your look!

Questions parents ask
What age is this comic course for?
It's made for kids 6 to 13. Younger kids draw three simple pictures and say one line each. Older kids plan the message and the cast with more care, and rewrite any page that needs a change.
My kid says, "I can't draw." Can my kid still make a comic?
Yes. Stick figures and simple shapes work. Each drawing needs to show who is there and what is happening, and the line under it does the rest.
How much of this happens on a screen?
The films take about 4 minutes, and the drawing happens on paper. Screen time comes after that: taking photos of the drawings, reading the pages, and publishing.
