How to make a video game: a course for kids

To make a video game, your kid picks a goal, draws a hero, a key, and a villain on paper, builds five levels from the door to the boss, adds music and sounds, playtests every level, and launches the game. Six short films, one for each department in Game Studio, show each step. Each film runs about a minute, so watch it with your kid before they open the department.

Questions parents ask

Are the films free to watch?

Yes. All six films play free on this site, with no account. Your kid builds the game itself in Game Studio, which comes with Kubrio One or Kubrio Unlimited.

Does my kid need to know how to code?

No. Your kid draws the characters on paper, picks the goal, and builds each level by deciding what goes where. The studio turns those choices into a game the family can play.

Who can play the finished game?

Anyone with the link. On launch day, your kid's game gets its own page, and new levels go out as free updates at the same link.
