Free course: How to draw a character

How to draw a lion

The mane is just a circle of bumps, and the lion hides in the middle of it. Watch the video, follow along on paper, then print the practice sheet and draw it again.

Draw it step by step

Six steps to a lion

New lines are purple. Lines you already drew turn light.

1

Start with the mane

Draw a ring of pointy tufts all the way round, like a big spiky sun.

2

The face in the middle

A big round face inside the mane, with a little ear peeking out at each side.

3

Eyes, nose and smile

Two dot eyes, a round nose, and a wide smile underneath.

4

Draw the body

A round tummy under the mane, wider at the bottom.

5

Legs and a tail

Four legs to sit on, and a long tail curling up behind.

6

Finishing touches

Three whiskers on each cheek, and a fluffy tuft on the tail. Now this lion is yours.
