Halloween for kids Costume ideas Superhero

Homemade superhero costume with a cape
Ages 6+ · about 1 hour
A homemade superhero costume is a cape cut from an old sheet or felt, a felt eye mask, and an emblem your kid designs. Close the cape with hook-and-loop tape, not a knot, so it pulls away if it catches.
What you need
- An old sheet or a big piece of felt
- Felt in a second color for the emblem and the mask
- Scissors and fabric glue
- Hook-and-loop tape (Velcro) with a sticky back
- Elastic cord and a stapler
How to make it
- Design the emblemYour kid draws an emblem on paper: a letter, a star, a lightning bolt, or an animal.
- Cut the capeCut a rectangle as long as from your kid's shoulders to the back of their knees, no longer, so they can't trip. Round the bottom corners.
- Add the closureStick a piece of hook-and-loop tape on each top corner, so the cape closes at the front of the neck.
- Glue the emblemCut the emblem from felt using the paper drawing as a pattern, and glue it to the middle of the cape. Let it dry flat.
- Make the maskCut an eye mask from felt. A grown-up cuts big eye holes, then staples elastic cord to both sides.
Tips by age
For younger kids
Use sticky felt or paper for the emblem, so there is no glue to wait for.
For older kids
Invent the hero's power and name, and add a matching emblem to a T-shirt.
