Draw faces that show feelings, then give one to your jack-o'-lantern or your monster.

Free4 lessons4 minutesWith Krea

4 short films with Krea, each about a minute long. After each one, your kid does a step on paper or at home. Every lesson plays free on this page, with no account.

Free here until October 31. After that, this course is in Kubrio's kid app with the rest.

Your turn!

Draw a circle and a line across the middle. Put the eyes on the line, then add a nose and a mouth.

What the film says (Lesson 1 of 4)
  1. Today you draw faces that show feelings. Happy, sad, angry, and more!

  2. Every face starts with a map. Draw a circle. Then a line across the middle.

  3. Here's the trick. The eyes go on that line, halfway down. Not up at the top!

  4. Under the eyes, a little nose. Under the nose, a mouth. And an ear on each side.

  5. Keep it simple. Dots for eyes, a curve for the mouth. Meet Bo!

  6. Simple shapes are easy to change. And when they change, the feeling changes.

  7. Your turn. Draw a circle and a line across the middle. Put the eyes on the line, then add a nose and a mouth. Then press Next.

    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Here's the big secret. Eyebrows and mouths do most of the work!

    2. 0:06

Watch. Same eyes, same face. I only change the mouth. A smile is happy. A frown is sad.

    3. 0:15

Now the eyebrows. Tip them down in the middle, and Bo looks angry.

    4. 0:21

Lift them up in the middle, and Bo looks sad or worried.

    5. 0:26

Raise them up high and open the mouth in a big round O. Surprised!

    6. 0:32

Two lines and a curve. That's all it takes to change a whole feeling.

    7. 0:38

    Watch lesson 3
    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Your faces work. Now push them further!

    2. 0:04

Cartoonists make feelings bigger than real life. That's called exaggerating.

    3. 0:10

Happy? Make the smile wider. Turn the eyes into happy curves. Add round pink cheeks.

    4. 0:18

Angry? Pull the eyebrows down hard. Show the teeth. Add a puff of steam!

    5. 0:25

Scared? Make the eyes big and the pupils tiny. A wobbly mouth, and a drop of sweat.

    6. 0:32

Small feeling, big feeling. Which one can you read from across the room? The big one!

    7. 0:40

Your turn. Pick one face you drew. Draw it again, but bigger. Wider mouth, stronger eyebrows, and one extra mark. Then press Next.

  4. Lesson 4 · 0:55

    The expression sheet

Your turn: Draw your six feelings in six boxes. Then cover the words and ask someone to guess each one.

    Watch lesson 4
    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Now make an expression sheet. One character, six feelings, on one page!

    2. 0:06

Fold a page into six boxes. Under each box, write a feeling. Happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised, and proud.

    3. 0:17

Draw the same character in every box. Same head, same ears, same hair. Only the face changes.

    4. 0:25

Proud is a new one. Chin up, eyes closed, and a small happy smile.

    5. 0:32

Then test it. Cover the words, and ask someone to guess each feeling.

    6. 0:37

If they guess it, it works! Now your character is ready for a comic or a film.

    7. 0:44

Your turn. Draw your six feelings, then test them on someone. You made an expression sheet!
