Free4 lessons4 minutesWith Tek

4 short films with Tek, each about a minute long. After each one, your kid does a step on paper or at home. Every lesson plays free on this page, with no account.

Free here until October 31. After that, this course is in Kubrio's kid app with the rest.

Your turn!

Draw your walker from the side: a round body, stick arms and legs, and a nose that points the way it walks.

What the film says (Lesson 1 of 4)
  1. Hi, I'm Tek! Let's make a drawing walk. Not just once. Again and again, forever!

  2. First, be the walker. Stand up and walk across the room, really slowly.

  3. Look at your legs. One swings forward, then the other. They swap on every step.

  4. Now look at your arms. When your left leg goes forward, your right arm swings forward. Opposite!

  5. And your head bobs. Down when your foot lands. Up when you push off your toes.

  6. Animators watch real walking first. Then they draw what they saw.

  7. Your turn. Draw your walker from the side. A round body, stick arms, stick legs, and a nose that points the way it walks. Then press Next.

    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Here's the secret. One step is just four poses. Contact. Down. Passing. Up.

    2. 0:08

Contact. Both feet touch the ground, legs wide apart. The front heel just landed.

    3. 0:15

Down. The front knee bends to catch you. This is the lowest your walker gets.

    4. 0:22

Passing. The back leg swings past the straight one, with the knee bent and the foot up.

    5. 0:28

Up. Push off your toes! The body rises. This is the highest it gets.

    6. 0:35

Draw a ground line first, so every foot lands on it. Then check the bob. Low, then high.

    7. 0:42

Your turn. Draw the four poses in a row. Contact, down, passing, up. Write the name under each one. Then press Next.

  3. Lesson 3 · 0:53

    Now the other leg

Your turn: Draw your eight poses on eight sticky notes, one leg red and one leg blue. Number them 1 to 8.

    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Four poses make one step. But a walk needs two steps. Left, then right!

    2. 0:06

So draw the four poses again. This time, the other leg goes in front.

    3. 0:12

Here's a trick. Color one leg red and one leg blue. Now you can see which leg is which!

    4. 0:19

That makes eight drawings. Draw each one on its own sticky note, with the feet on the same line.

    5. 0:26

Number them, one to eight. After eight comes one again. That's the loop!

    6. 0:32

Line them up and look. Red leg in front, then blue leg in front. Red, blue, red, blue.

    7. 0:40

Your turn. Draw your eight poses on eight sticky notes. One red leg, one blue leg. Number them one to eight. Then press Next.

  4. Lesson 4 · 0:56

    Proud or sneaky

Your turn: Ask a grown-up to photograph your notes, then swipe through fast. Then try a proud walk or a sneaky walk!

    Watch lesson 4
    What the film says
    1. 0:00

Time to make it walk! Lay your eight notes in a row. Ask a grown-up to snap a photo of each one, in order.

    2. 0:07

Now swipe through the photos fast. One to eight, then back to one. It walks on the spot, again and again!

    3. 0:15

Now give it attitude. The same eight poses can walk in lots of ways.

    4. 0:21

A proud walk. Chest out, head high, big bouncy steps. Make the up pose extra tall!

    5. 0:28

A sneaky walk. Body low, knees bent, tiny tiptoe steps. Make the down pose extra low!

    6. 0:36

Then take your walker to the Animation Studio. Tap I drew one, and make it the star of your movie.

    7. 0:43

Your turn. Make your walker walk, again and again. Then try a proud walk or a sneaky walk. You made a walk cycle!
