Can two characters dance at once?
Give each character a forever loop. Both keep going, at the same time, for ever.
Meet a forever dance
A forever loop never finishes. So if one character is dancing for ever, how does anyone else get a turn? They do not need one. Every character has its own program, and every program runs at the same time. Two characters, two forever loops, one ▶.
Up, down, up, down… and nobody has to wait for it to finish.
See it work
The flamingo has a forever loop. The penguin has a forever loop. Press watch once, and see who has to wait.
🐧
Nobody waited. Both loops started on the same ▶, and both are still going. A forever loop never finishes — so it never makes anyone wait for it.
Your turn
Now you're the programmer.
Can you make the penguin dance to the disco ball?

What if your dance had different steps?
Try the steps the other way round: up, right, down, right. The penguin starts by going up instead of across, and still lands on both notes and the disco ball. There is more than one dance that works. The flamingo keeps doing its own the whole time.
For grown-ups
Two programs that each loop for ever and run side by side are called concurrent processes — the reason a game can animate a dozen characters at once.

Make a game other kids can play
The blocks on this page are a first taste. In a Kubrio project your kid builds a real game — powers, triggers, levels and all — and other kids get to play it.
