How do I stop forever?

A stop block ends everything. Put it under a hat, and you choose when.

Meet the stop block

A forever loop never stops by itself. The stop block is how a program stops it. When the stop block runs, everything stops — every loop, every character, all at once. But a stop block on its own runs straight away. Put it under the 👆 hat, and it waits for your tap.

the hand — everything stops

A forever loop and a stop under a hat: that is a program you can steer.

See it work

The car has two programs. One drives for ever. The other waits for a tap, then stops everything. Watch the finger.

ExampleTap to stop

When tapped

The car went all the way round once and kept going. Then the tap came, the stop block ran, and everything stopped — right on the 🅿️.

Your turn

Now you're the programmer.

Can you park the car?

Press ▶, then tap the 🚗 just as it reaches the 🅿️.

What if you take the hat off?

Pull the 👆 hat off and press ▶. The stop block runs at once — before the car has even left — and everything stops on the spot. A stop with no hat is a program that ends before it starts. The hat is what lets you choose the moment.

For grown-ups

Stopping a running loop from outside it is what an interrupt or a cancel button does — the program keeps going until an event tells it to end.

Make a game other kids can play

The blocks on this page are a first taste. In a Kubrio project your kid builds a real game — powers, triggers, levels and all — and other kids get to play it.

Ingenious projects that inspire kids to make things — until they find the thing only they could make.
