What does forever mean?

A loop with no number never stops. It goes round and round until you stop it.

Meet the forever block

You know the loop with a number. It runs what is inside it 2 times, or 3, or 6, and then it is done. The forever block is a loop with no number. It runs what is inside it, then runs it again, and again, and it never runs out. It only stops when you press stop.

no number — it never runs out
inside — what goes round

So this one block says: step, step, step, step… for ever.

See it work

Here are two trains on the same track. The first one has a loop with a number. The second has a forever loop. Watch both, and see which one stops.

ExampleA loop with a number

ExampleA forever loop

The first train stopped at the station, because its loop ran out. The second train went off the edge, came back on the other side, and kept going. It is still going now. Press ■ to stop it.

Your turn

What happens if you put a bigger number on the arrow?

Tap the number on the arrow inside your forever loop until it says 5, then press play. The train still goes round for ever — just faster, five squares at a time. Forever decides how long. The blocks inside decide what happens each time round.

For grown-ups

A loop that never ends is called an infinite loop. Every game, every app and every clock runs one at its heart, waiting for the next thing to happen.

Make a game other kids can play

The blocks on this page are a first taste. In a Kubrio project your kid builds a real game — powers, triggers, levels and all — and other kids get to play it.

Ingenious projects that inspire kids to make things — until they find the thing only they could make.
