Halloween for kids Pumpkin painting ideas Candy corn stripes

Candy corn painted pumpkin
Ages 6+ · about 30 minutes, plus drying
To paint a candy corn pumpkin, paint three bands around it: yellow at the bottom, orange in the middle, and white at the top by the stem. Draw the bands in pencil first and the stripes come out even.
What you need
- A pumpkin, washed and dried
- Yellow, orange, and white acrylic paint
- A wide brush
- A pencil
- Painter's tape (optional, for sharp edges)
How to make it
- Mark the bandsDraw two lines around the pumpkin in pencil: one a third of the way up, one two thirds up. Painter's tape along the lines gives sharp edges.
- Paint the bottomPaint the bottom band yellow, all the way around.
- Paint the middlePaint the middle band orange, even on an orange pumpkin, so it matches the other bright colors.
- Paint the topPaint the top band white, around the stem. White needs two coats, so let it dry for 20 minutes between them.
- Peel and dryIf you used tape, peel it off while the paint is still a little wet. Let the pumpkin dry before you move it.
Tips by age
For younger kids
Paint one band, take a break while it dries, then paint the next.
For older kids
Add a face to the middle band, or paint a row of mini pumpkins in the same stripes.
