Halloween for kids Pumpkin painting ideas Ghost pumpkin

Ghost pumpkin painting idea
Ages 6+ · about 30 minutes, plus drying
To paint a ghost pumpkin, cover a small pumpkin in white paint, let it dry, then paint two tall black eyes and a round mouth. It needs two colors and no knife, so a 6-year-old can make it from start to finish.
What you need
- A small pumpkin (a white one skips the base coat)
- White and black acrylic paint
- A wide brush and a thin brush
- A pencil
- Newspaper to cover the table
How to make it
- Get it readyWash the pumpkin, dry it well, and cover the table with newspaper.
- Paint it whitePaint the whole pumpkin white with the wide brush. Leave the stem brown. Let it dry for about 20 minutes, then add a second coat if orange still shows.
- Sketch the faceWith a light pencil line, draw two tall ovals for eyes and a round or wobbly mouth. Big shapes look friendlier than small ones.
- Fill in the facePaint the eyes and mouth black with the thin brush. Go slowly around the edges.
- Add the finishing touchWhen the black is dry, dab a small white dot in each eye so the ghost looks alive. Let it dry before anyone picks it up.
Tips by age
For younger kids
Start with a white pumpkin and draw the face with a thick black marker instead of paint.
For older kids
